Senior-ology seeking Intern Class of 2012 NOW!

STP Images has a specialty division dedicated to High School Seniors called Seniorology. Seniorology is accepting applications from current high school juniors only for our annual Intern Class. This internship will bring each junior into the world of a small business and to see what it’s like to run a successful photography studio. On top of that, each intern will get a set of incredibly smokin’ senior pics after your own senior photo shoot. The internship lasts six weeks and we will meet as a group at the Senior-ology studio in Houston’s Museum District. When you’re done, you’ll get a certificate of internship to add to your college applications and all final jpgs and a video from your senior photo shoot.

Four easy steps to apply:

Write 100 words or less, why you believe that YOU would be the best high school intern for Senior-ology. Be creative in your reasons and you might even include your extracurricular activities.
Send us the following info about you: name, age, gender, mailing address, email address and Facebook.
Attach a sample photo of yourself. This does not have to be studio quality, but needs to be clear enough to show us who you are. It can be an image from a point and shoot camera, a cell phone camera or professional shots – whatever you have access to that can be easily emailed.
Email the 100 word essay (item #1 above), your contact information (items #2 above) and your jpg images (item #3 above) to todd at stpimages.com.

This past year, we had six interns from five different Houston high schools. Don’t be left out of this year’s group. We had a ton of applicants last year and expect to see even more applications this year, so don’t delay and get your email to us now! We will email you a weekly agenda for the internship once we receive your application. We will pick our interns and post the winners on our STP Images website and our Seniorology website.

Camille and Jasmine

Can’t believe it’s been a month since my last post. As a family, we were really able to slow down a bit and enjoy some great family time. After our son got home from Ole Miss for the winter break, we headed to the beaches and the town of Cabo San Lucas over the Christmas week and enjoyed holiday favorites like tacos (octopus, snapper, shrimp, marlin, shark) and limonadas from every stand we could stop by. Got some much needed vitamin D from the daily sun and now we’re recharged and ready for 2012.

We’ve been a little pressed for time and neglected posting here lately, but we’ll fix that starting today with images from some our favorite sessions from the final months of 2011.

Today, it’s Camille and Jasmine’s turn. Camille’s Mom wanted some studio shots of both Camille and their oldest family pet, Jasmine. They came by the studio with multiple outfits, Camille, Jasmine, some dog treats and they were ready to go. Camille was one of the easiest subjects I’ve ever shot. She was so sweet and did everything we asked of her without complaining. She withstood a 90 minute session and never flinched. Because of her calm and fun demeanor, her images are spectacular and we hope they are enjoyed for a lifetime. Take a look at a few samples below. Costumes & Cocktails Video

On the last weekend in October, we held an event at our studio in conjunction with the West Alabama Animal Clinic. See the post about the event here. A long time friend of STP Images, Apollo Landingin, was asked to video our event and we just got the video this past week. We loved it so much, that even though it’s a Halloween event and we’re now past Thanksgiving and barreling toward Christmas, we still wanted to post it. Childs Family Canvas Grouping

Thanksgiving just recently passed and we are most thankful for our great clients and our ever increasing family portrait business. One of our best clients recently purchased a canvas grouping from us. We shot Colonel Childs of the MMA Air Wing in Harlingen, TX with his wife, Adele, and his daughter on the MMA campus as Phase I of his family portrait session. A few weeks later, Col. Childs had us visit his Lake Jackson home to complete Phase II of the family portrait session by shooting him with Adele and their two four-legged family members.

After processing both sets of files, they reviewed the images and were hard pressed to choose a single one for a wall portrait. Cindy and I suggested a small grouping of 4 gallery wrapped canvases to allow for four separate images to be displayed in a 24″ x 32″ wall space. We made two small canvases of each of their much loved dogs, a slightly larger horizontal canvas of the family without the dogs and a large anchor canvas was of Col. Childs and Adele.

As business has been really booming for us lately and both Col. Childs and Adele had significant travel plans over the next few weeks, the only date we all had availability to install the grouping was on Thanksgiving Day. As part of any STP Images canvas grouping purchase, we custom insall the canvases in the client’s home or office to ensure perfect spacing and appropriate location. We were happy to accomodate on Thanksgiving – it seemed most appropriate for one of our best long term clients. Thanks again, Col. Childs!

Megan’s Senior Portrait Session

We have kept a steady stream of high school seniors coming through the studio over the past couple of months. We’ve been so busy with them that we have neglected to post anything here in a while. So today, we’re posting Megan’s session. She called us a few weeks ago and said that she was familiar with us through our work with Virtuosi Houston. She played in the orchestra when we photographed them individually and at a few of the concerts last year. She is a Klein Collins senior this year.

Megan wanted a full blown indoor and outdoor session at the STP Images Photography Studio in Houston’s Museum District. We scheduled a time for an evening session on a weeknight and planned over the phone what she should wear and what we would accomplish in each of our photography locations. Megan and her Mom arrived at our studio at the designated time and we went right to work. We were losing daylight fast, so we started with our outdoor locations that are just a couple of blocks from our studio. We loaded up the Jeep and headed to our favoriate local graffiti wall. From there, we headed to a small convenience store with lots of current movie posters on the wall and using our portable lighting setup, got a bunch of great images for her.

We re-loaded the Jeep and shoved off for the studio where we started in our second story studio with some high key images on a plain white background. We tried a few things including some headshots for our latest Andy Warhol styled Pop Art Print Project. After a change of clothes, we got some elegant images of Megan against our trendy brocaid wall at the other end of the studio. We wrapped up with a few natural light images that were just stunning.

We’re posting only a few sneak peek images here since Megan and her Mom have not yet come into the studio to proof the final 24 images. We can’t WAIT for them to see the entire set of images and the music video we made from the session. Kyle and Margaret’s Engagement Session

Several months ago, our studio phone rang. The voice on the other end said that her name was Carol and that one of our best clients, Liz, had referred her to us. She was interested in finding a photographer for her daughter’s wedding in April 2012. We set up an appointment and during our meeting we simply hit it off perfectly and she loved our work. Her daughter, Margaret, then made an appointment to come by and see us. We showed her samples of our wedding work, some of our sample albums and had some happy hour treats in the studio while talking. She was thrilled and signed a contract and left a deposit for us to shoot her wedding. Cindy and I were really looking forward to it.

While she was in the studio, we also talked about her engagement session. We were meeting in the middle of the smoldering hot, drought-ridden summer, so we decided on an October session since she wanted some outdoor shots with her fiance, Kyle. We talked about the types of images they were interested in and we made a plan for the shoot. She wanted something that was a combination of rural and urban. We figured that Buffalo Bayou just outside of downtown was the right location. We set up and shot images in six different locations. Some had the greenery of the bayou only, some had downtown only and some had both the Houston skyline and the bayou greenery.

Near the end of our meeting, Margaret mentioned that she met Kyle at a U of H party that had a mexican theme. She said that when they first saw each other, they were both wearing sombreros. Well, we just had to find SOME way to incorporate that theme from their “beginning” into their session. So, we decided at the end of the session to don some sombreros and use those fun images for a Save The Date card.

Costumes and Cocktails a HUGE success

This past Saturday, the West Alabama Animal Clinic and STP Images Photography Studio hosted the first annual Costumes & Cocktails Halloween event. The event could NOT have had better weather – sunny, mild and beautiful! We extended thousands of invitations and really had no idea how many folks would show up, but it was truly packed! Over 150 people attended and over 40 dogs in costumes graced the studio and grounds of the STP Images Photography Studio. There were games for the pets, treats for the pets, toys for the pets and a doggie costume contest. Sponsor vendors for our pet products included Merial, VetStreet and ResQ.

In addition to all the pet goodies, we had free servings of the award winning wines from Retreat Hill Winery on hand and the incredible treats from Angie’s Cake Ball Truck. We had a silent auction with several incredible items including a $2,000.00 retail value diamond necklace from our friends at Roshar Jewels.

When pet owners had a chance, they came upstairs to have portraits taken of their pets in their costumes. We photographed nearly 30 pets on Saturday. We’ve posted a few of our favorites below. We can’t wait for next year – we already have some ideas to make it bigger and more awesome than this past Saturday. We also have a GREAT video of the event coming sometime next week from our friend Apollo – watch this site for that video, I promise you it will rock!

Fashion Houston 2011 Night 4

Thursday night was the final evening of Fashion Houston 2011. The Wortham Center was packed again – the crowds seemed to grow each night. It was also extremely packed on the photographer’s risers. I felt like I was boxing out under the basket in a college basketball game! Title sponsor Audi and Jared Lang have a lot to be proud of.

The evening got off to a red hot start with Cesar Galindo’s Rojo collection. Bibhu Mohapatra followed Cesar and then Robert Rodriguez sent his collection down the runway. The event was capped by Becca Cason Thrash’s personal couture collection. It was a fantastic way to end the four nights and next year’s event ought to be bigger and better than ever based on the feedback I heard.

Fashion Houston 2011 Night 3

I had a family session to shoot on Tuesday night and missed Fashion Houston, but returned to the runway last night shooting an assignment for Houston Modern Luxury Magazine. I was only asked to shoot a portion of the night and focused on the red carpet arrivals and the opening show – local favorite Chloe Dao. The Wortham Center was packed again and the runway show was superb. Chloe worked a lot of prints into her designs which she says was really a stretch for her, but I believe they were stunning.

Fashion Houston 2011 Opening Night

I was fortunate enough to have been issued an all access pass for Fashion Houston 2011 to shoot for several different corporate clients. Primary sponsor Audi and Houston Magazine will be using my images from the four day fashion event this year. Last year was the inaugural event for Fashion Houston, but this year hardly seems like a sophomore year for them. Lots of national coverage including E!, Bravo and many others. This year’s lineup is phenomenal and includes Jerri Moore, Barbara Tfank, Project 360, Douglas Hannant, Katy Kills Prettyby Aries Milan, Cesar Galindo (two collections), Saks 5th Avenue, Carmen Mark Valvo, Chloe Dao, Camilla, Fabiola Arias, Norman Ambrose, Bibhu Mohapatra, Robert Rodriguez and wraps up with a special collection from Becca Cason Thrash.

Opening night was exceptional and was a fitting kickoff for the event. The Wortham Center was packed and Jerri Moore’s collection kicked things off.
