Our goal was to capture photos for a two page spread in Houston Modern Luxury and to capture video of the shoot as well as an interview of each participant.  We started at 11:00am and didn’t have everything wrapped up until 5:00pm.  Long day, but a fun one for sure.  We had over 20 people in the studio at any given time yesterday.  I have a lot of work to do in Photoshop with other client images before I can get to post any of the Verizon Photo Shoot images, but I did use my GoPro video camera to capture a time lapse of the 6 hour shoot.  It is only a little over 2 minutes long, but shows how much goes into a photo and video shoot.  Enjoy!

On the day of the shoot, Randy came to the STP Images studio in the Montrose area and we started our photo shoot upstairs in the shooting room.  We captured some standard high key images to be used in print advertising and online.  We then piled into the Jeep and headed downtown in the late afternoon.  We had already scoped out some great spots that captured the same look and feel he wanted while using some really unique backgrounds.

Nicole is a student at St. Agnes Academy and wanted a full blown rock star session.  We planned an elaborate travel plan to get the entire shoot done in under 2 hours – and we had our work cut out for us.  We started at Ervan Chew Park in the Montrose District.  After locating some really great spaces to get some combo images of urban and green space, we moved to the new and upscale Fairmont Apartments and got some fun shots in the fountain out front.  We were feeling a bit edgy, so we then moved literally into the street (after waiting for traffic to pass, obviously) to get the shot of the day using one of the bridges spanning US59 in the background.  Using a shallow depth of field lens, we captured a very iconic image – so much so that it is used as Seniorology’s quarter page ad in the May issue of Houston Magazine!  We then moved back into the air conditioned comfort of the Seniorology Studio and finished with some 70′s inspired shots.

Mariana is a student at St. Agnes Academy.  She has done a fair amount of modeling work and it shows in her ease in front of the camera.  We were able to get some really awe-inspiring images at some gritty downtown locations, along Montrose Boulevard, at the Menil and back at the Seniorology studio.  Not only did Mariana get some great images to record her senior year in high school, we were also able to focus on getting several images that she could use in her modeling portfolio.

Say hello to Sarah.  Sarah is a student at Bellaire High School and is on the yearbook staff there.  With her creative eye from her work with the yearbook staff, we were able to come up with a shoot plan that rocked.  We really lit it up in the studio after capturing some great natural light stuff around the Montrose.

So, today, to break the long silence I am posting our early March senior photo shoot of Kelsey.  Kelsey is a student at Bellaire high school and has spent some time in front of the camera before.  She was relaxed and we had a blast combing Montrose and downtown for some hot locations.  We also got some awesome headshots and other cool images in our Museum District Studio.

Last year, our phone rang with a wedding quotation request from Carol, Margaret’s mom.  We met a couple of times to discuss coverage options, albums, prints, collections and specialty items.  We were so pleased when we found out that we were the selected photographer for Kyle and Margaret’s wedding.  We immediately set up a plan for engagement portraits, bridal portraits, wedding coverage, albums and even a “trash the dress” session following the wedding day.

We photographed the engagement session back in late October.  They we so happy and so photogenic – click here to see some of those great images.  We were so pleased to get the save the date cards from them with our photo emblazoned across the front.

Fast forward to mid February and it was time to get Margaret’s bridal portraits done.  We were thrilled to learn that she would be wearing a Monique Lhuillier dress and would have her reception at Houston’s Junior League.  We scheduled the bridal session for February at the Junior League based on the estimated completion date of the dress.  It was ready on the Friday before our Saturday photo shoot – talk  about cutting it close!

The dress is beautiful, the bride is beautiful and they are going to make a beautiful couple.  Their wedding is this coming Saturday, April 14, 2012.  We can’t wait for the day and know we’ll knock it out of the park for them.  We have posted a few of our favorites from the bridal session below.  Take a look and let us know what you think and wish the bride and groom a lifetime of joy and happiness!

Ember called us recently and mentioned that she needed some formal and informal headshots and portraits for her professional and personal use.  She also wanted to include her four legged baby, Noodle.  We planned a session over the phone including the locations and outfits for each.  Ember and Noodle stopped by the studio and we had perfect weather for the outdoor part of our session.  We headed back to the studio and finished up and sent them on their way.  A few weeks ago, Ember came in and viewed the best 24 images from her session on a huge 77″ wall projection system and picked her favorites.

We were pretty pumped when we got the call to photograph our next chef, Monica Pope.  As owner and chef of T’afia, Monica has found local fame with her cooking skills, with her blogging and through her being named Best Chef at the 2009 Houston Culinary Awards.  She has found worldwide fame with her James Beard nomination in 2007, her selection as a Top 10 New Chef by Food and Wine Magazine and her participation in Top Chef Masters on BravoTV.  She is also very philanthropic and her $5,000.00 Quick Fire Challenge win on Top Chef Masters was donated to the Recipe for Success Foundation.  If you’ve not had a chance to stop by T’afia on the edge of midtown, you’ve got to do yourself a favor and go.

We discussed their options for using the STP Images Studio versus their home and we chose the home to put the girls most at ease during the session. It really paid off as we captured some really beautiful and emotional images of them both in their home and back yard. We used an equal mix of natural light and strobes with softboxes to offer the most variety to the look and feel of the final images. It was really difficult to cull the set of images down to a reasonable number.
