Susan’s Rally

Many years ago, Bruce and Susan Roberson began organizing a local road rally for friends and acquaintances.  The Houston wide auto scavenger hunt got to be pretty popular and Susan began flying to Houston from Tulsa each year to help keep the rally growing.  Sadly, Susan developed breast cancer and lost her stuggle to the disease several years ago.  Without Susan’s presence, the rally faded into obscurity.

After some urging from friends, Bruce decided to revive the rally in Susan’s honor.  He started the Susan’s Rally nonprofit organization and began a crusade to raise awareness and to find a cure for breast cancer.  In the past 17 years, Susan’s Rally has raised over $500,000 in cash to service local needs for places such as Sojourn House, M.D. Anderson, Christus Stehlin Cancer Research Foundation, The Rose Mamography organization and cancer patient counseling organization Y-Me.

This year’s rally supported Sojourn House Houston and mustered at Momentum Volkswagen for the noon start.  The vehicles wrapped around the block after choking the driveway twenty cars deep and three wide in the service drive.  Everyone received a packet of “clues” and set off about Houston on a massive scavenger hunt.  After completing their tasks through the scheduled deadline, everyone headed to the Post Oak Grill to turn in their packets and await the results.  A huge buffet awaited the arrival of the participants and they were treated to great wine while shopping the silent auction items.  The live auction netted some much needed donations and the overall event was fantastic and bigger than ever.  Looking forward to next year’s event.
